I thought most hip folks had already discovered Warby Parker. And, by hip folks I mean my two dozen cousins aged 20 to 30. As we sat gathered around a New York institution’s table for family cocktails this past Friday, every one of them asked about the blue Tenley’s circling my brown eyes. Well kids, I declared to the familiar sea of eyes looking back, these aren’t just glasses. They spread goodness throughout the universe. One pair of glasses is delivered to someone in need with every pair purchased. If that doesn’t say collaboration family-style, I don’t know what does. Buy your eyesight here.

Metals and Music and Moments

How do you see yourself? Has it changed over time? Growing up, I always felt like the chick lead singer in a band of dudes. Being the only sister in a family of brothers influenced me, infinitely. I was taller than the boys at school, cut bangs when other girls revealed their foreheads, and simply never quite fit a mold; smarter than the cheerleaders yet not as ironic as the theatre kids. I followed the beat of my own heart and felt it all. As I listened to Feist perform, last night, inside of BAM’s opera theatre, I felt everything. The woman is a brilliant example of being who you are while making room for the people you encounter.

When the man I thought I would marry knocked me to my knees, I (quite literally) felt like the name of our shared favorite band, a broken social scene. I kept listening to Feist, as music cures people, and eventually I got my mushaboom back. Her latest and fourth album, Metals, is a self-described “treasure-hunt of everything in my life — the books I read, movies I saw, people I am close to or observed. It’s just the whole messy passion play.” And isn’t life really that, a huge soulful play of passion?  No matter what metal you are drawn to, for goodness sake, harness your strength and be kind to yourself and others’. Along the way of music and style and life, your true self will never steer you astray. Collect the moments, lovelies, and don’t think I didn’t find metal for you to feast on. I’m liking Paige Novick’s use of gunmetal and antique rose gold almost as much as I love listening to Feist.

Friday Frock and Fizz

Cheers to all of us, we made it, it’s Friday! My fizz-spiration (if you will) hit me while my wanderlust was satisfied at Edible Manhattan’s Edible Escape last week. As I strolled through the offerings of locavore purveyors, I noticed somebody had put baby in the corner. Hudson Baby Bourbon. A single grain bourbon made from 100% New York corn, the first bourbon whiskey to be distilled in New York. Her smooth consistency is calm, convivial and warm all the way down. I’ll be pairing it with this baby, a printed leather midi dress, just as fluent in texture.

A few days later, my bourbon luck multiplied when a friend suggested Char No. 4 as a meeting spot for dinner. There is no way I can say Salute without giving you a double dose of Frocks and Fizz this Friday.

A look above the bar reveals an homage to the practice of aging bourbon in barrels. The light coming from the cylindrical pendants highlights a perfection of an aged whiskey spirit and complements a frock as caramelized and sweet as bourbon itself.

After The Heartbreak Diet set in, I moved into my own bright home. I’m finally getting around to the finishing touches of decor in my new sanctuary. My wardrobe choices are breathing life into my living room design.
