Cheese(cake)

I am beyond words obsessed with this cheesecake. The clever creation comes from a wedding featured on Snippet & Ink. I can’t stop thinking about how genius it is, truly! As a lover of all-things-edible-cheese, this is my dream “cake.” Top it with figs and other fruits, and well, you’ve got yourself a big winner in my book.

Friday Frock and Fizz

Lets channel sequins and a fresh spirit for this holiday-infused Friday, folks.

This Asos Revive Sequin Wrap is a stunner for holiday parties or a fun Friday date. I will be wearing a similar frock to my parents’ Christmas party, where I’ll be sipping Four Spirit Eggnog. Go ahead and give it a try for yourself…

  • INGREDIENTS:
  • 18 egg yolks
  • 1 fifth Cognac
  • 1 pint dark rum
  • 3/4 pint peach brandy
  • 1/2 pint applejack
  • 1 1/2 pounds confectioners’ sugar
  • 3 quarts milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • DIRECTIONS:

Beat the egg yolks until they are thick and pale. Add Cognac, dark rum, peach brandy, and applejack. Stir in confectioners’ sugar and blend well. Add milk and heavy cream and refrigerate the eggnog for at least 5 hours. Before serving, fold in egg whites.

Friday Frock and Fizz

This Friday’s frock and fizz derive from my list of ‘favorites.’ The first being a favorite actress, Kate Winslet. Her style is timeless, like the color navy and the smoldering vibe of this frock caught by photography at its best.

The second favorite I’m sharing today is a painting by Gaston Locklear. I met Gaston several summers ago, along the coast of South Carolina. He is the salt of the earth and as talented as the skies above.

Check out more of Gaston’s work here.

Cheers!

Friday Frock and Fizz

Cheers to all of us, we made it, it’s Friday! My fizz-spiration (if you will) hit me while my wanderlust was satisfied at Edible Manhattan’s Edible Escape last week. As I strolled through the offerings of locavore purveyors, I noticed somebody had put baby in the corner. Hudson Baby Bourbon. A single grain bourbon made from 100% New York corn, the first bourbon whiskey to be distilled in New York. Her smooth consistency is calm, convivial and warm all the way down. I’ll be pairing it with this baby, a printed leather midi dress, just as fluent in texture.

A few days later, my bourbon luck multiplied when a friend suggested Char No. 4 as a meeting spot for dinner. There is no way I can say Salute without giving you a double dose of Frocks and Fizz this Friday.

A look above the bar reveals an homage to the practice of aging bourbon in barrels. The light coming from the cylindrical pendants highlights a perfection of an aged whiskey spirit and complements a frock as caramelized and sweet as bourbon itself.
